I have found that with these modern fast booting machines, that tapping the F key does not work very well. You have to hold down the F key and hit the start button.

Of all of the periphery devices linux does not like is the printer. I can't find a linux driver for your printer. However, you might find this could help: www.makeuseof.com/tag/printing-linux-choosing-right-printer-getting-work/'Modern' printers do have the device driver for linux included but in your case the age of the Epson will have problems because no linux drivers were written for your machine. This is not just a problem with linux by the way!! I have a an HP wireless printer that works fine on my 2 windows 7 machines, but in win 8 on the HP I can't even install the driver, it just hangs...and I've tried all variants including compatibility mode. My pen is running out of ink now (lol)

Yep, but do check on the Support Site (of the printer you choose) does have Linux drivers, before you buy it.

Check to make sure you have CUPS installed, look in Synaptics Package Manager or Add / Remove Software (something along those lines) to see if CUPS is displayed and installed. In Add / Remove Software you may have the option to Find particular packages, Type CUPS into this and it should display a host of printer packages. Shown Below.

If you install a couple of them it will ask to install others that are necessary to function.
Another way is to use the Legacy option if offered. You may see something like this (not exactly as I'm using a different system but you should have something similar). Check the Legacy Tab and find the CUPS (common UNIX print package. It may work for older printers). Place a check mark in the box and Apply it (it will install itself).
