There has been a lot of news recently about and against adblocking.
Although I can see ads are to help fund many free website visits, some sites are just a complete bore, overflowing with loads of static and moving ads. Especially download sites, some are so overloaded you can't always see / find the 'right' download button. In effect the download now button sends a download of completely unrelated and quite possibly dangerous rubbish.
Let's cut to the chase!!
I do a lot of online banking / transfers and buy nearly all my repair stock online.
Recently I have encountered problems at the checkout. When you click to buy / pay now the browser just hangs....and then a window pops up saying payment unsuccessful. On one site I got a 'payment declined'!! That really cheesed me of no end. In this case it was to pay off an Amex bill. I tried a second time and that payment was also declined. Went into the message centre to lodge a query. Amex rang me back within 2 hours and explained a few things about payments online when adblockers are in use in your browser.
I do use adblockers because I find the ads just send me berserk!! A good and decent website does not need to monetize in this way. Newspapers in the UK are now almost unreadable with autostarting vids, bloody banners at the top of the page, relentless crap.
Some cards use a 'visa' 'mastercard' or 'AMEX' verification window and adblockers prevent the authentication procedure.
Adblock plus, Adblock Edge, Ghostery and Privacy Badger need to be disabled to ensure payment is authenticated.
You may have already found that some sites already flag that you are using an adblocker which is in the cookie, sent back. That is privacy taken away innit?
I may add to this whinge / rant later, after I have taken enough tablets lol!!
Please post your own experiences regarding adblocking
