Chip-card rollout a year later: Slow and, mostly, sure Progress being made, but not without angst The rollout of smart-chip cards and chip reader in-store payment terminals in the U.S. hasn't been easy -- to put it mildly. Saturday, Oct. 1, marks a full year since banks and card companies mandated that retailers install new, more secure chip-based credit and debit card readers -- and adopt related new payment processes -- to avoid liability for fraudulent card payments. ios 10 lockscreen primary MORE>>>>>I spoke with Joe (based in the US) 18 months ago about this and his debit card had the facility but did not always work at his outlet(s). The UK and the EU have brought in this concept and we have been using it with few issues. However the introduction of Tap&Pay or Tap&Go has really created a new problem. UK debit and credit cards are issued with this facility. It started with an immediate payment just by hovering the card over the reader terminal. It started with a max of £10. All cards have been increased to £30 tap & go. OUCH, slight problem here! Because this facility DOES NOT REQUIRE A PIN they can be used instantly. If the card is lost it you cancel but a new problem arises!! In the UK we have these cards issued as standard now, debit and credit with this symbol embossed: Then this happens when you might want to cancel card when lost: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/08/tap-and-go-fraud-warning-cards-can-be-used-after-you-cancel-them/Some card suppliers now issue without the facility but also some card suppliers will allow you to not allow it to work as a NFC card, the terminal should reject the attempt. Have fun!
