Now comes the uninstall procedure in windows. If the 'product' is found then it wiil just do a general uninstall but it leaves a load of shite in the reg, which I'm not happy about.
So we have look at 3rd party uninstallers.
I use Revo free in advanced mode to do this:
www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Revo-Uninstaller.shtmlAnd for a cleanup after I use
Ccleaner, probably the best bit of freeware you can get!
Mike, there are many uninstaller's around and Revo is a good one. I had to upgrade as I needed the 64 bit version. The 'free' 32 bit version
DOES NOT access the 64 bit part of the registry and leaves junk behind. When I switched computers I needed to buy a NEW license, no way...
I now use Advanced Uninstaller, check it out, it is 64 bit capable too. Another I had on the old computer that was free at one time and switched to pay. The 'old' Free one was still available but I decided to use Advanced Uninstaller only.
I tell you, since using AU I did a few checks with CCleaner and although they did find some stuff, it mostly was stuff that would be recreated.
NOTHING is perfect from what I know of the Registry and hunting around. 'Normal' uninstalls by any program can NOT get it all. Developer's purposely hide stuff with hives that are not created during install nor associated in any way with the application. Uses are license info, scores, and collected data. Now 'traced' installs could pick some of that up, but not always. Even if you read the binary looking for text data you'll miss some. Using a process program to see what is opened you'll probably miss some. CCleaner might get some of these as they reference a missing file but it will NOT them all.
Still, as you might recall a few years ago CCleaner damaged my computer, possibly due to an add-on. Even the author showed up in the web and doubted that could have happened, but it did.
Note MS says it will NOT speed up your computer cleaning the Registry. How many people and program claims have you seen that say it does?
Revo,
READ REVIEW HERE and note the part about 64 bit...
Advanced Uninstaller Pro,
GET IT HERE, I highly recommend this as it is capable of the 64 bit registry entries.
I'm too lazy to fire up the old computer to find out what the uninstaller I liked better (but will not pay for) is. Sorry...
