hi all Is there any way to get rid of the incessant adverts that infiltrate every web page on an i pad??? I read about blocking individual ads but that looks a tiresome job and would mean you spend half the time doing this instead of getting on with what you went to the web page for in the first place doh!!!! Is there something like ABP we use in windows??? Daughter bought this one for hubby( sorreee Mike) your refurbish still going strong but he wants instant finds and liked the ipad. I told her not to even think of going there for me, I will have a tablet instead Ha!!! Now here is another question. Which 7 to 10 inch tablet has the best recommend? ? You know Granny get two questions for the price of one CHOL:)

The Hudl is pretty good 7" screen and has pretty good all round specs, the only major concern is screen size if your eyes aren't too good you may have issues but for the price (was £99 may have come down a lot since) it wasn't that bad. (I think the price is about £80 now.)
The Hudl2 looks to blow that out of the water with a slightly larger screen 8.3" although the downside is Battery Drain and it's a little heavier (and a lot more expensive) £129. Not sure about any others at present.

Kate, fortunately I am without an iPad or anything Apple related; they normally go pear shaped...the repairs, when they go pear shaped, are just eye watering. Not quite sure what the question is.... You have one that is playing up? or you thinking getting one? My answer to both would be a (un)qualified no!

Hi Kate, I have sort of a wish list and this is on mine. Have you looked at the Samsung Tab-s ? Everything I have read about it here in the US. is favorable. Too pricy for me, so will remain wish list status.

So was hoping for some advice on best make etc.... My wife and I both have iPad's (2 and a 3). I don't understand the question about ads? I 'suspect' it is for some specific apps? All too many offer free apps but they really serve as a platform for ads which is how they get paid. Some do have free and paid versions of the apps and the paid version has no ads. Others have 'in app purchases' that will turn off the ads. I'd ask for specific apps that present those to your husband, but with the many thousands of apps out there I probably don't have the ones your interested in. But post a few anyway and I'll see if I can find anything about them. If I've got it wrong and it is not when running the apps let me know. I wonder if it is NOTIFICATIONS though? They CAN be annoying, but controllable within the settings/notification center.

Thanks again. Irv I see what you mean about the apps generating money from ads which is why I wondered if there was a trusted Ad Block. You may recall hubby just uses compooter ( now ipad) for weather and e. mails, he is not into anything else ha!!!! will try and copy link over later, but think it was BBC weather app. and net weather app, and met check app. When he is try to change a page within, he gets all sorts of ads, but i wonder if he accidently clicks on an ad and that then shows even more unwanted content,. will look at settings/notifactions.
Mike i will look at those but think i would go eben more grey with an 8 inch screen....

Hi Kate, I know what you mean, my eyesight is failing rapidly, one set of opticals for screen/reading and another pair for repair work! Anyway, got this in my email box this morning from ebuyer>>>>>WikiPad WP005 Tablet PC Ok, it's a 7 incher but the specs are quite high. It has a mini hdmi out which means it can be connected to a TV or hdmi equipped monitor. Only mentioned/posted this in case you/anyone else in quandary what to buy the grandkids for xmas lol!! I've just pointed this one out to my friend and he is getting two.

Mike i will look at those but think i would go eben more grey with an 8 inch screen.... I use Intellicast HD for weather here in the US. This is what I see now: At the bottom is an ad, and if you select REMOVE ADS you can but it costs. I've NEVER seen ads in the mail using the standard iPad e-mail client? I wonder if it could be the ISP or your husband is using a web-based e-mail client, like Yahoo or Gmail. There ARE Ad Blocker's for the iPad (iOS). Go to the app store and search for AD BLOCKER and you'll see some (and some do cost). Also some 3rd party web browsers that will block ads. I don't see anything in the settings to block ads per se. If it is notifications that can be stopped there. Those are pop-ups and chimes apps produce not ads. I use my iPad for travel. It is much easier to carry/use that a laptop or netbook. I like the larger screen on the iPad (and its copycat tablets), not due to eyesight but convenience. That is because I'll play games on it as well and the larger images help greatly in some. A smaller iPad Mini or 'phablet' (phone larger enough to be considered a tablet, like the iPhone 6+) might be a good choice for you. Hmm, I tried to PREVIEW this and all I see is a "JAVASCRIPT:VOID(0);" on the status line? Something new or is it the latest Firefox, 34.0.5 which had some 'major' changes to it? I'm pretty sure this used to work? Hmm, doesn't seem like I can activate Javascript on it?
