My download was from filehippo!! And PC Mechanic installed anyway. And yet the T&C's of Imgburn talk about turd parties and it clearly states that turd parties will not install without your consent (or words to that effect). I was offered Tune Up Utilities, just did not select the T&C's box for it and it bypassed the install and gave me Imgburn instead.

This is what I get, tried it again this morning. As you can see at the bottom of posted image, this occurs prior to download being run or saved. I could allow the install, but that defeats the purpose of having AV. protection. I wonder if you are seeing a False Positive? Probably not, I've seen others complaining the same but you never actually installed it so it isn't like if you went on you'd get OC installed? Have a Virtual Machine, give it a try. I opened my VM and got Imgburn from CNET (knowing it alone will load junk). I did 2 declines and then installed. Clearly stated in the EULA is that Open Candy will be installed and that you CAN remove it without problems. I never saw a decline for it during the install. After I could NOT find and OC anywhere? Program and Features does NOT show it either? So I got MalwareBytes and ran it. Nope, didn't find it? Searched the drive and can't find any reference either. Can't find the EULA either, it wasn't installed it seems? I wonder if it IS in the code but NOT installed?

Tune Up Utilities is part of the AVG thingy!! unneeded and unwanted addition with any d/l. I'll do my own tune up thank you, if I really ever need it!! I just don't want this shit added to a d/l and I don't like the way it installs and auto starts... yep, turd party, but what really irritates me is the fact some turds get installed even after selecting NO!! A few tools in store could be an option!

Update:
Because I still wanted a image burning program, I decided to bite the bullet and download it last evening.
Used the download from Major Geeks site. Temporarily disabled AVG to allow the download without any warnings. Downloaded the install, and used advance install to get rid of all the crap it would allow me to, and It installed.
Ran Malwarebytes, and it found and got rid of five PUPs. Ran SAS, it found the usual tracking cookies and cleaned those out. Enabled AVG and ran a full computer scan. It found a version of open candy still on machine even though Malwarebytes said it was clean. Ran each again, all seems clean now.
A lot of trouble just to download a program, that once used to be an easy install.

Just found this, NeoSetup, it lists IMGBURN and 'supposedly' will STOP all junk? ============== NeoSetup makes sure you are only installing clean updates and keeps your PC in good shape. It automatically suppresses all types of browser toolbars, third-party apps and offers that are displayed by application setups. ============== I've loaded it but NOT tried it yet. One reason is it has NO way to detail the location you want the app to go. I install almost ALL items at a different place than the default. I will give it a try at some point though.

Thanks for that Irv. I have tried ninite.com/ which is supposed to do virtually the same thing. It didn't stop the Imgburn nasties.

Thanks for that Irv. I have tried ninite.com/ which is supposed to do virtually the same thing. It didn't stop the Imgburn nasties. I think the problem is that there are 2 ways to install the crap. One it via a Wrapper, that is something that runs first. CNET d/l's do that. You go through their d/l'er first with choices to 'skip/decline' (some others hide the fact using 'back') and once you finish that you run the real program install. The other nasty one is when the developer includes it with the install. I found a nasty one recently that installed the Chrome browser with no warning or way out. I just deleted it after (I think it was CCleaner, not sure?). IMGBURN appears to do this, it is done from their installer. I guess it is one way to ensure they get paid for getting the other party a 'new user'. I've got a new problem I don't like but I can at least live with it. I was a long time paid user of Revo Uninstaller Pro. They change to a new version and I'd have to buy it again. No thank you, I'll use the old version. The 64 bit version is only available for purchase. So I was getting nag screens to upgrade every time I used it. Annoying. Found Advanced Uninstaller Pro which is just as good. However with the latest release, V11.60, it not does something 'bad'. It seems it has a 'scanner' that runs AFTER you uninstall something, sort of a checker if you will. Normally one runs the scanner manually AFTER you uninstall something. It finds left over items like Registry Entries and files and folders the program uninstaller doesn't take out. You can then remove it. On RARE occasions however the program uninstall doesn't return to Adv. Uninstaller and you miss that opportunity, so I assume that is why it was added? Now the 'bad' part... Firefox was updated internally, it found the update, I had to restart FF for it to install. Almost immediately AFTER it restarted, Adv. Uninstall pop-ed up a window that it found items to clean up. ALL from FF, and of course it was the latest release itself, all files, folders, and registry entries (that were clearly 36.0.4). At least I could do nothing and dismiss it twice. I can't find where this is enabled, no clear settings for it, nor and service or autostart for that? Must have a hook in code for uninstalling is my best guess? Oh, the program doesn't clean as well either? I tried a FBCHECKER program, didn't like it, and uninstalled it. Ran CCLeaner and it found 4 items, clearly associated by name to it, still in the registry...

Yes Irv, and it's getting worse. Recently looked at some OTC software. Even though all you want to buy is the title of the software, many of them come bundled too. And that's a purchase, not freeware.

irvspTry GeekUninstaller it has Native 64bit support. warlockI think it's one of those things that will remain at least for a while until enough people complain for it to be removed or until whatever kind of contract/agreement they have with OpenCandy (who seem to be cornering the market in this way). In the meantime CDBurnerXP used to work very well, haven't tried it in many years but some people still swear by it.

Thanks Neil. That may be a good alternative program. Have Imgburn now after a tedious install and clean up afterwards.

Neil, looked at it. A Portable app it seems. Might be OK, I'll give it a try next time. Thanks. However a brief look at some of the features leaves me wondering. The RMB Registry entry is really hard to find by yourself and rather useless to me at least. Installation folder you can get from the desktop icon also. We'll see how through the removal of all traces are. IObit has one too, www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.php but I try NOT to use their products. There are a few others that cost as well.

I wouldn't trust Iobit either, a company that technically doesn't exist!? Who gets the blame?
