Fabian Wosar over at Emsisoft has created a new decryption tool for the ransomware known as Gomason (gmail.com).
The tool is simple enough to use, it's just a case of collating a decent img of the encrypted one and the tool will begin to work out the encryption key. Ok maybe it's not as simple as that as you would need a unencrypted file as a base denominator, but at least it's hope.
You can even (assuming it's a stock image found on a search engine) compare between a stock photo / picture and encrypted image of the same.
While this is not as simple as using a backup image it does offer much relief to many sufferers of the 'I'll do it tomorrow' backup plan.
