Ok so it's been a good few months since I used my Vista machine but I figured with it being time to install windows updates I'd better get it done now, only the issue is no updates appear to be coming through it just keeps ticking over with the blue bar for hours and hours.
So my question is this, are there any Vista updates still going through?
If not I can lock it right down and tweak the system to my specs and bring the services right the way down until needed.
If there are still updates then something is wrong somewhere and I need to investigate further.
All input appreciated.

The only Updates I received on Tuesday were several for Office 2010.
Of course that does not mean there were none for Vista as I don't have Vista on any thing.

That's the problem Rick, my update bar just keeps ticking over. If there are / were no updates then it usually says none available. I think I may have to dig deep next week to see if I can work out what's happening.

GS, Vista updates are pretty mind annoying at the moment. Had 2 laptops with similar probs in the last 4 weeks. Both were high end machines ( at the time ). One I just wiped and bought win7 Home for silly money (20 quid) : softwaregeeks.co.uk/product/windows-7-home-premium-3264bit-product-key-coa/When you buy the key you are given the link to download the iso from their site. The second I installed linux. Both were running 32 bit Vista home. Let me know what the machine is.....can it run 64 bit or just 32. If it is 32 bit then I can help you out here...have the iso and a 'spare' key unused. Anyway, these are just options Neil Feel free to contact

raphoenixI have looked through there but nothing that pertains to my issue, sadly. Admin_VistamikeMy system can run 64bit if I were to increase the RAM as the CPU is both 32 & 64bit capable, however I don't intend on taking this Win 7 route on this system purely because: - I like Vista
- I don't feel it's worth upgrading to a system which is only half finished and will now never be completed
I'm just going to have to try to figure out what's going on and why during the week. Will keep you all posted on what I find out.

Doesn't mean anything to me mate.
As far as I'm concerned it just makes Vista that little more secure in terms of malware infections likely-hood.

Go for the "Power 2016 Standard Street Machine"; Not sure if Dodge exports this or not but readily available in US.
Gets 13 miles per gallon of petrol in city driving. (LOL) (LOL)

Neil, what version of Vista are you running (32 / 64)? What is the ram? 32 will only see 3.5gb ish of installed 4gb ram, with 64 that lappy may be able to go upto 8gb. Check the ram upgrade options. I have some spare ram sticks. EDIT: I came across this MS site with a few options to trysupport.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2509997

Mike I tried some of the things in that link however there is still no change, some of the things I couldn't do as I am receiving no error codes of any kind, I did find a few people that had a similar issue on sevenforums (I can't remember the link now) they had a link to a MS Fixit Tool which I tried and it said it repaired a few items including Windows Update. However, nothing has changed and when I ran the Fixit Tool again it stated that it will (and had) fix(ed) the Windows Update issue (which it hasn't). What another useless Windows Tool, am really getting sick and tired of MS now considering shutting down Windows Updates and all non essential background services to see how much bare bones I can go to before the computer stops responding to certain demands placed upon it. Failing that I will be looking towards another Linux option. oops MS. Maybe Slackware (now that's fast).

Yes I know and understand.
I'll reframe in the future from mentioning Win 10 when talking with you.
I really don't have anyone on this board to discuss things with since I run all the latest hardware plus all the latest MS and Apple software plus do the IoT stuff.
