Yes I know and understand.
I'll reframe in the future from mentioning Win 10 when talking with you.
I really don't have anyone on this board to discus things with since I run all the latest hardware plus all the latest MS and Apple software plus do the IoT stuff.
It's not that you have to refrain from talking about it Rick, I actually enjoy reading your insider knowledge on the latest MS platform(s), if anything just to get an idea on what direction MS have decided on with each new release. It's just as a User I couldn't cross that ship and actually jump on the WIN 10 bandwagon, I would always prefer to keep options open and try something different and at the same time very familiar. I am interested to see what they've done about the security aspect of the OS though, so far from what I've seen and heard, there has been little learned from their previous endeavours.

Rick, your input on Winx is always VERY interesting reading. I am one of those peeps that just won't go for it, my previous attempt was just a nightmare and nightmares I can do without, especially being a bad sleeper A clean install is obviously the best way to if you are gonna go 10, but upgrade to 10 is really causing problems with some repair stuff that has come in recently. In most cases I just reverted to the old OS without issue. The clients were happy to retain their original system. One of many major issues is hardware drivers, manifold on HP and Lenovo in particular. Another issue is 10 uninstalling software they don't like, deleting graphic drivers in preference to their own. 3rd party apps are also deleted, without permission....oh hello, should we not be alerted to what the hell is going on?? Uninstalling MS Office ( a bloody pain to re-activate ) on reinstall....this is shit!! And the security also becomes a problem for the average user, they don't realise the data sent from the OS If a summation was to be summed up, for the 'average' and not the 'superuser' then I have to say that there ten ways to shove it where it actually should hurt. Rick your input and knowledge is brilliant EDIT: First look: Microsoft's Windows 10 Anniversary Update preview??

Neil, I run this on my Acer PC: ultimateedition.info/One of the best Linux operating system I ever ran including MINT. It comes bundled with much software that you'd normally fork out 100's of squids on Windows. I do a lot of music and photo editing with it. Rick, I am thinking of trying WINX again as a clean install on a spare Toshiba lappy that is coming my way in the next few days. It currently runs Win 8.1 so WINX install should be a doddle

I may look into that after I move, got a lot of packing to do before the big heave-ho to Norfolk so from June(ish) onwards I wont be around until I can sort out some sort of ISP.
Preferably a fan of Debian though but we'll see what works.

In regards to running that Laptop on WinX, let the machine upgrade normally so that it registers itself with the MS Servers.
That way you will never ever have to use a PIF number even if you clean install later.
In fact, every (over the top install of WinX) IS a Clean install which leaves all existing software in place and running.
In regards to First look: Microsoft's Windows 10 Anniversary Update preview?? (BUILD 14332); it will throw an error if you try to run GPEDIT.MSC (Group Policy Edit).
I found the FIX for the issue.
Tis missing the file (WinMaps.adml) which is easy to get from another MS Update. www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48257 Download File contains BOTH admx AND adml files.
I need a place to put some utility files so folks who run WinX can download them and make their lives as simple as eating pie.

AH Rick,
thank you very much for that info. I will do as you suggest.
I will have the 30 day option but also will have cloned the drive anyway prior. Damage limitation
And I like eating pie but my best pie maker was my mum and she is now in the cloud and so is the recipe!
@ LH , cloud / offline I really have a problem with, we has the HDDs anyway. I never cloud sensitive info anyway
Neil, didn't realise you were gonna do a 'sluff' removal to Norfolk!!
Nice broads, good for wetland broadband on the weft of the locks...

Too expensive here Mike and businesses are pulling out and moving further away all the time because of the rent, maybe that's why they call it a high street?

Mike, read what Rick wrote. He needs somewhere to upload to that others can download from. Or maybe I misunderstood.

Your above post is correct.
Tis easier to upload a utility file which can be downloaded by members than for me to try and write long HowTo(s) with links in them to several places.

Mike, read what Rick wrote. He needs somewhere to upload to that others can download from. Or maybe I misunderstood. Answer, I will look at a way we can have our own download area. LH, as you know I have a NAS box which acts as a web server but am still experimenting with 'permissions' The Synology software is linux based; in addition, everything I upload to my folders need ridiculous amount of editing to authorise a folder. I am creating a software folder for members to access public, after the file is 'clean' Just need a few days to upload and test the URL and ensure access to my other files are secure
