Recently changed my broadband from Sky Fibre to Vodafone Fibre, mainly because Sky was skyrocketing in 'line rental' free calls restricted unless you bung them heavenly bundles of dosh. Originally had Virgin Media Fibre and the prices just went up and up but the so called 'superhub' which I was conned into paying 30 quid for (me the mug) and guaranteed 100mbps started fine (90-100) but then dropped to under 30 on occasions....and the fact I was charged another 5 quid for the 'service', my bills were coming in at 60-70 plus a month! Did not get much if any support so sacked them and went to Sky just over 2 years ago. Started fine and must admit the speed of 38-40 was constant. I actually did not need mega speeds anymore because of work changes. However starting at £35 all in a month better than VM and thus saved some squids. Then the prices started rising, last month my next bill was to be £51.99!! Upped the landline fee to 20.99, added 4 quid to make evening free calls. SILLY!!
I have had a Vodafone cell contract for 10 years and I was always gett TXT and emails to go with them for home phone and broadband. Never really gave it a thought. They are advertising free line rental too.
So logged in, applied and what do I get. Well £35, including a 5 quid discount as I'm already a Vodafone subscriber, (all on one direct debit) is for BB and home phone with 24/7 free calls to landlines and mobiles! Oh joy. Went ahead and all went well, by my home phone number they knew I was with Sky and they did all the cancellation thru to new connection, hub arrived, brilliant because it has it's own fibre connection so I didn't need connect via the OpenReach ONT (optical network terminal) so another power socket released to wild, don't worry I'll find something else to plug in!!
What I did not realise with the Vodafone router is that I can now run my CCTV directly, so I can remotely log in and monitor my 4 cameras and manipulate them via CMS software, although I could do this before it meant logging into XMeye website and was bloody slow.
As digressions go I digress. One other option is that you can tether a Vodafone phone either wireless or just connect the LL directly to the router and use VOIP etc without adding more kit. Except I needed a landline phone that could do this also.
SO HERE WE GO
Bought new cordless phone system with what I needed, 2 handsets because I need emergency phone by bed.
It all runs well, new system is colour screen so I can actually see the display without the headlights on (spectacles).
