OK, enough with the flaky flakes already I thought it might be FireFox and just got the latest upgrade and the font corruption for a few seconds continues, and since I do NOT see this on other sites, I'll assume it is some incompatibility between the font I use on Firefox and the flakes. See THIS VIDEO CAPTURE to see it, look at the subject and watch them change, more like blur, randomly. I live in Florida, it doesn't snow here, so why should my screen? People who do get snow probably don't need more either Anyone else see this 'font change/corruption' or is it something unique to my system? Legacy ATI Radeon beta driver?

Irv, I might check out it out later. What version of FF are you using. Also, why shouldn't you be suffering as we are. Right now 22 degrees F. here in Pa. It's seasonal too, better than putting holiday lights on a palm tree. Attachments:

It's seasonal too, better than putting holiday lights on a palm tree. I'm on 26.0, was on 25.1 and it happened there. I have the A/C on! Was over 80 again today. Paper said we'll be seeing 70's soon ( www.orlandosentinel.com/weather/?track=orl-nav-main-weather) but it is still too warm. Very little breeze so the house warms up. Why shouldn't I be suffering? Because I'm in FLORIDA!!! You should try it. Was at Disney Studio's Sat. night to see the Osborne Light spectacle. Over 80 and they showered us with fake snow (and it was MOBBED, never saw so many people there and the parking lot was FULL), but the Hot Chocolate wasn't a big seller . See that 75, that is 'me'

Irv, I might check out it out later. What version of FF are you using. I'm trying to pin this down. I have seen it on other sites IF I had opened this site, but NOT all sites? Matter of fact, I think it was DuckDuckGo that had it? If I do NOT open this site, it might still be happening, but I'm going to have to track this to see, I'll post back with other sites I see. Meanwhile I'm going to restart FF 'virgin' and see if it happens then? EDIT: Gone, no problem in SAFEMODE, but I also see the Snowflakes are gone now?

Hmm, it could be something else on my system? I saw it again on MSN's homepage, font changes.
Now suspect one of two thing (since a SAFEMODE run did NOT show any problems), an add-on or toolbar effecting this (but the toolbar doesn't seem to make sense?
Matter of fact, I again see it on this SCREEN as I'm typing my response.
Sort of suspect Norton here, they had to 'fix' the toolbar as the last upgrade to NIS2014 broke it and it just came out a few days ago. However, I recall having the problem before that. As I said, I can't see a toolbar doing this, but some add-on, yes....
In case anyone cares, I have these 19 add-ons:
=========== Application: Firefox 26.0 (20131205075310) Operating System: WINNT (x86-msvc)

I see the SNOWFLAKES are back, at least on the main page.
I still HAD the font corruption even after they were removed. Not on every web page though? Very odd. No reports of users running the recent versions of FF having it either? Then I discovered it on IE 11 as well, but not the same sites.
Big hitter's were here and Facebook?
I decided to change the default fonts. That didn't help.
OK, there is a setting to allow pages to use their own fonts rather than my defaults. It was checked, I unchecked it. That seemed to stop it but my font choices were UGLY... so I put it back to allow the web pages to decide which font to use. I figured now that I have a bad font (but wouldn't bad stay bad, not get corrected if I moved the corruption off the page and back on?) and I'd find out which one and replace it. However, now that I reset that checkbox it IS working right? Of course it is too early to tell, but it has been OK this morning after I did that?
Since IE did it as well (I hardly use it so I didn't realize it before) it is either in W8.1 or the font, maybe one replaced during the W8.1 install. I have 1009 fonts in the WINDOWS\FONTS folder and a majority have a June 2013 date on them, which is I assume when the W8.1 image was created (fonts normally would not change). Still, unless a font that is rarely used on other sites were the problem, which I doubt is the case, the problem probably resides in Windows font rendering itself or specific calls within some browsers? I did try FF in SafeMode and the corruption was there too so it is in base FF.
Oh well, let is SNOW, only time one in Fl. can see some here other than the hotels that truck on ice and make their own snow or Disney's 'soap bubbles' :-)

Guilty, looked at that link. Not sure it is the same thing, most are OLD links, FF 4 or 5 even. One recent one isn't specific enough either? THIS was one of the newest. Did give me a hint though, as I was using the word 'corrupted' rather than 'blurry' in my Inet searches. Used 'blurry firefox font' and discovered other possible causes, HARDWARE ACCELERATION! I've turned that off, I've been having some ATI driver problems as I suspected THAT might be the cause. I've got an ATI HD4870 and ATI made it a 'legacy' card. They produced a W8 driver (that had some problems) but when W8.1 arrived (the pre-view 8.1 worked fine people have said) problems arose. I found if I switched to the 13.4 Beta driver it worked better. However, it might have been about the same time all this started? Now I've 'futzed' around some with the W8 and Beta drivers and it seems I might have screwed it all up. I can't get Catalyst Control Center to open (A LOT of people have this problem it seems, and with differing h/w on different Windows versions?) and so far I can't correct it after many attempts using uninstalls, Drive Sweeper and Display Driver Uninstall programs... sigh... I might just go out and BUY a support video card. This one is 5 years old after all.

OK, although the snowflakes appear to be gone again, I'd like to tell you I gave up with my OLD HD4870 card and bought myself a present, an ASUS HD7770 video card. Just installed it and it seems my font corruption here is GONE, but time will tell, as I started seeing it on other sites, but oddly enough ONLY on FF and IE, not on the desktop or applications, even the Metro ones... and I attribute that to W8.1 as I had NOT seen this until I installed/updated it. There were a FEW reasons I did this $135 USD act: - The obvious, the font corruption here and other places nothing seemed to solve.
- Driver issues, the card is 'old' and ATI considered it a LEGACY card, hence, no new drivers. Last driver was for Win8 where it did work fine.
- I need Catalyst Control Center to brighten my screen is a few games. My display, and old Dell 2001FP LCD is connected via DVI, but in that mode, the on-screen menu doesn't have brightness control, it only does under VGA. CCC provides that capability.
Some of you might remember that I was having occasionally computer lock-ups within the first few minutes of using the computer. Generally when using a Mozilla product, Firefox or Thunderbird. Drove me nuts, reloaded both of those many times, no help. Some of the time it appeared the system really wasn't locked up, just lost contact with the keyboard and mouse. My keyboard has an LCD display that told me that. A few times taking out the BT Receiver and plugging it back in (USB) would clear that. OK, since I was using my wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, those drivers were reloaded. Well, next suspect were the video drivers. Tried in no particular order the standard W8 and Beta W8 drivers. Beta seemed to work better, and CCC was working FINE with both of them. Next to hit was the above corruption and I 'lived' with it for awhile. Got to be annoying and decided I would 'mess with' the drivers and settings. Poof, my freezes came back and the corruption didn't go away. After a few tries with various programs that 'remove' video drivers and then manually inspecting where ever they had files and registry entries I got it ALL out. Safe Mode reported it was using the MS default drivers. Booted to Real mode, and the ATI driver came back. I'll assume MS used them in W8.1. No CCC of course, and now, any attempt to load the ATI drivers never replaced the active video driver and CCC reported errors that it couldn't run depending which driver I loaded, the legacy or Beta. One GOOD think was that with the Beta driver installed NO freezes. Still had no CCC and the corruption though. So, I bit the bullet and bought the card. So far, no lockups, no font corruption, and I have CCC running and can brighten the screen. Better video performance too, a 2GB card vs. a 1GB card and a faster RAM and GPU. Time will tell if ALL is OK, worry about power consumption and heat with the new card. It doesn't vent the heat outside.

Oh, I do see a 'flake' problem, when you place a mouse over either a forum or thread, the orange line blinks off slowly. These are much smaller flakes though and appear to be background only. This ONLY happens in Firefox, not IE?
