I was working on a lappy this morning, merely adding some software we all use. The app was ImgBurn, from trusted source FileHippo. This is what happened, even after unticking via custom install!! TuneUp Utilities installed and immediately asked me to run it. Edit: even the download from the img site is bolloxed!!Oh dear, things have changed! I ran Mbam and got this To uninstall the TuneUp Utilities was a pain, and then I got this: A trial version. Really unhappy with this shit!!

It's not the fault of FileHippo, those "craps" are bundled in the app itself.

FileHippo used to ensure the crapware was not there. But even the original d/l is now bundled. OpenCandy I do not like at all, another bloody pain.
If FileHippo hosts the D/l then I think it should be checked.
See it now in Cnet and sourceforge.
Sorry, but it's unacceptable

I did warn folks of this sometime ago, seems everyone's at it now can't really blame the developers if its freeware though, they have to make a living somehow I guess but it would be nice to design it in a way that the installer is far clearer to novice users. original post; tgigeeks.boards.net/thread/136/imgburn-2-5-8

The concept of bundling this rubbish is just not on. My beef is that you uncheck items but they are still loaded, I don't think that is right. And still other stuff is installed....the bugger is that toolbar shit is gonna take you somewhere you really don't want to go.

Very true!
I remember testing a program (who's name escapes me now) that actually tried to install some Google program maybe Chrome and toolbar but not sure, which had a check/uncheck list in the T&C's right at the bottom, which is why I always scan through those just to check them. I haven't seen it since though.
The really annoying ones are when you uncheck the 'crap' and then are presented with some other product with the choice that says 'Accept' and 'Decline', but these ones look like and even make you feel as though you are declining the installation of the program you really want.
I guess the marketeers are ruling the roost these days even in free and open source products, maybe to discredit them and force users to purchase non free products of a similar program.
