Well, it is surprising but it's all about archival storage not instant access to a particular file or folder. The interesting thing here is to read that 60 year old tech still overcomes spinner and ssd problems. I know that my old company still use tape drives to store their Master Disks, a secondary backup is spinners. Tape, stored correctly can last for ages, spinners and cds don't, they can fail pretty well fast.

Yay. I like tapes that had moving parts you could actually get in to and sort out the issues (fairly) easily, discs however can be annoying when they decide to stop working due to a slight scratch or a speck (and I mean a speck) of dust on them, that issue was never really rectified properly.
