Recently removed my optical drive from the laptop to replace with a HDD. Previously the optical drive was not working in the laptop but I want to test it on the desktop, the desktop does not have the correct connection to power it. Appreciate a cheap cable suggestion, this is the drive. GT32N

Yeah desktop is IDE but also SATA which is data so no prob but I am looking for a adapter cable to power this optical seems they are big power connecters in the desktop SATA drives but very small for laptop SATA components.

I will add that the reason I want to test is because when I removed it I found a single hair in the drive, so need to check before binning.

Thanks for that offer Mike. I tried the optical drive back in the machine it came out of, still no go. Before I bin it I would be interested to know how to clean the laser?

Since you know how to remove the drive don't need to go into that. This should help, yours will be similar if not exactly the same.
