So currently running Win Vista 32bit, did have a long list of programs installed with only 87.xGB's left on HDD with Security programs Commodo FireWall, WinPatrol, SAS Pro,
BD AntiCryptolocker, BitDefender AV Free, Sandboxie, Spyware Blaster.
All were running on start up and the result was about 20mins to connect to the net. No surprise there I hear you ask and you'd be right, however,
recently I stripped my HDD back to only the essential progs I use regularly and now I have 134GB's free (250GB drive).
I no longer have Commodo FW or WinPatrol (although I may re-install it later) as such I figured with the increased space (R&W times) plus the lack of an extra FW my connection speed should be increased??
Not the case.
So I did a little testing, I opened up Task Manager selected Show Processes for all Users and found that top of the list was not a anti-malware program, nor was there a Browser topping the list.
Instead what I found was something called svchost now this is nothing new as they're are a lot of different versions that run on a Windows system, but this one in particular was under Network Service again nothing surprising there.
So I checked what Services it was connected to and found it to be associated with Cryptographic Services, DNS Cache, KtmRm (whatever the hell that does) and that this svchost was running at 50% cpu I tried to open a browser (Pale Moon) and the page was waiting to load for ages, so I looked again at Task Manager highlighted the top process "svchost" under "Network Services" then selected End Task surprise, surprise the page loaded straight away as though I was using a Linux system.
So my question is...What the hell is going on there?
I may never know, but what I do know is that as long as the page load/connection is super quick I will always be ending that particular process
