I have a 32" Sony Bravia flat screen LCD tv approx 5yr old.
My problem is turning it on or off from standby by the remote has stopped working,
I can turn it on from the set itself and the remote will do all other functions apart from putting into standby and turning on from standby.
I also have a sky box and a Sony dvd recorder and both their remotes do not put tv into standby or back on.
Everything is clean and new batteries which leads me to a fault in the tv itself.
Do these type of tv's need opening and dust blowing out of them?
I can live with it as it is because it works fine otherwise.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Greebal,
Assuming your DVD remote previously would switch off the Bravia TV then that should eliminate the TV remote control as being faulty. The problem then probably lies with the on/off switch relay or any associated circuitry. (The pads in the remote do wear, especially the ones in constant use)

Hi Ted,
I agree with you, but fixing it is beyond my capabilities, will have to find someone for the repair.

Personally I would live with it, after all many years ago we all had to get up and switch the TV on or off There is a fudge if you cannot live with it. If you buy a cheap remote control mains outlet and just plug the TV into that you will be able to switch it on and off. It will mean another remote laying around though. Ted

I would also suggest you try opening up the remote first, and cleaning just the contacts for that button. Both the rubber, and the pcb. Use clear alcohol and a cotton swab. Let it dry before re-assembly.

Ted, Yeah, I will live with it for now, I also remember the old days without remotes.
Lighthouse, Have already done exactly what you suggested on 2 of 4 remotes that used to work.
This small problem is not top of my list. I live in southern spain and by all accounts we are soon going to lose the sky tv you get for free. I am considering iptv but more for the wife than myself.
Sorry, I am going off topic, thanks for your suggestions.
