Hi guys and galls, Recently got my mum an USB phone ( this thingy ) so we can call each other on skype. Works brilliantly, very pleased with that. There is just one problem. When she plugs in the USB phone she looses all other sounds on the pc. Surely it must be possible to have both: normal sounds on the pc ánd sound on the USB phone. Because right now she keeps the USB phone unplugged so she can watch video's and the news etc on her pc and only plugs it in when she knows I'll call her. And how does she know I'll call her? Because I tell her so by means of Trillian. Yup that is right - when I'm on the pc anyway. Kinda makes it pointless, because then we can just chat on Trillian. LOL So what can I do to solve this? I take it I'll have to look at Sounds in the Control Panel, but I'm at a loss at how to set what how in there LOL.

Hi me deario:) See what this tells you. Enable Volume in the taskbar (system tray), right click on it and open Volume Mixer. Do this when she is using the phone. See if the other volumes can be changed.

LOL - that gave a weird effect. Apparently the phone now works instead of the speakers, so all sounds go by way of the phone. She turned on the newssite and I could hear the news over the phone. So is there a way to split sounds - all things Skype using the phone and all other sounds using the speakers

Ok, think we found it! I've set speakers in control panel > sound to default. And USB device to default for application > immediately a telephone sign appeared over the device, so that looked good :) Then back to volume mixer > set system sounds to speakers (was set to USB by default and wouldn't change back before, I take it because of the USB device manager app that came with it). The only difference is now the connection in skype appears on the screen and in the beginning she had to push the green connect button on the phone when answering a call, but now she doesn't (we ended up 'on hold' a couple of times before figuring that one out LOL) and when ending a call she has to click the red button on the screen instead of on the phone. But that's not a problem at all :P Very happy with the result :D
