So I bought this self-winding sundial. Problem is, it keeps stopping. Does anyone know of a good sundial shaking device ? It must be weatherproof, work automatically once every 24 hours, and run off solar power. I await your suggestions (with my dog), in anticipation. Thankyou.

Well, we could deconstruct this question as follows So I bought this self-winding sundial. Problem is, it keeps stopping.
From China, Honkers. They don't do GMT only HKT and I understand some of the automatics didn't work... wrong battery inserted solar panel was the option but the the sun went down. Shit happens But I have to say also that all sundials work when the current bun is out and they are weather proof, that's why they are placed outside. Tick Tock

erm, a couple of things I forgot to mention/explain. The sundial works fine on it's own in windy weather. The wind causing enough vibration to wind the mechanism. In calm weather I want the shaker device to work at night so as not to frighten the birds. The mechanism actually turns the dial to track the sun using some ancient (Egyptian/Mayan/Aztec) technology, thus no electricity required.
And thanks for your reply Mike. Not that it helps much!

OK, I won't mark it as solved then!!
The introduction of Egyptian/Mayan/Aztec technology merely exacerbates the raison d'être of the 'stupid buy'
I do know that the 'unworking' clocks in my collection are 100% correct twice a day, bang on time, as it were
LOL

"To be, or not to be?", asked the raison. "Too late for you", replied the grape.

The question is, how big is the sundial. If it is only six inches high then do the shake & vac. If big then move to an area where fracking is taking place. Too fracking bad if it don't work. Or buy an old railway signal box (you would like that) place the sundial close to the line and let the intercity express do the work. Ted.

Thank you Ted. I will answer in the order given,
Tis a bit more than 6", and I can't shake by hand. (now if I had the severe DT's, I might manage it) From what I have read, fracking is very bad. So we won't take that road. I like the old signal box idea. But you can bet your bottom dollar that all the rails would have been nicked (by you know who) thus no trains.

Yep GS, they do work, but you have to plan your cup of tea months in advance. (osmosis can take a long time)
