So I was just thinkin' that 2 rongs dont make a rite. But a rite is a rite. What is that all about? I don't know but, I have always wondered... Working on the premise that Dogs and Cats can get colds and People can get Bird Flu, does that mean that Grasshoppers can get Hay fever?

I think that grasshoppers can get hayfever. It's either that, or they can sneeze on demand. I used to catch them a lot, either for fishing bait, or to eat myself. I noticed that some, when imminent danger was approaching, could "hop" substantially further than normal. Thus I came to the conclusion that they were "jet-propelling" themselves with a sneeze after the take off jump. And as sneezes can be upto 40mph, it seemed about right to me.

I've often thought of them having a sneezing behaviour as it would explain why they can land in different directions even though they start from the same place and 'jump' together at the same time. The blast radius would make this happen, I think. Never eaten grasshoppers but have had plenty of woodlice (very tasty, like unshelled shrimp). Also to further carry on the analogies / questions. If a Kangaroo steps on a drawing pin do they still hop?

Well I never. I did not know that drawing pins could hop. I knew they couldn't actually draw tho. I suppose it would depend on which way up the drawing pin was when the kangaroo stepped on it. Pointy bit down, and they couldn't. But pointy bit up then yes (although technically it would be the kangaroo doing the hopping, and the drawing pin would just be along for the ride.
