Hi all Can anyone advise on a suitable piece of Kit for 11 year old boy. Looking at 'Kindle HD Fire' and I think there is similar 'Barnes and Noble'. Basically he would want it for reading Books listening to Music. But we would need to make sure we can block all search engines and insert lists of banned words. Some one mentioned a 'Smart App' Kids monitoring ? Please help with any advice and suggestions. It is so difficult when this age is moving on from Lego etc..... Kate

Thanks Irv can see them all here in UK, looks as though KINDLE seems to be the one to aim for, but was waiting to see if anyone uses any and what they think is best for 11 year old.

Kate, you might be 'short-sighted' here. Yes, maybe an 11 year old needs 'help' in restricting access. However, unfortunately, he'll get older. Possibly the Kindle will not offer what he wants as he gets older? Catch-22 so to speak.

Kate, an 11 yr old is more switched on today than we were.
What is best for a 11 year old runs out when they get to 13, a teeny, and the teenys know best! In effect, they will override parental controls, passwords and barriers at will. So as Irv stated, Catch-22 so to speak.
I understand the 'lego' comment fully.
Kids have to understand that the internet is/can be an unsafe place, by telling them that, what they gonna do? Come on, we were kids in the 70's lol

Thanks both, I know, tell me about it,Ha!!!! at the moment he is good when here or at home, but am sure when with peers anything goes!!!! Daughter thinks the kindle HD Fire, comes out tops..
Amazon have that at £119 but she has seen a refurb one at £79,(now if it was Mikes refurb) no problem, but think we should go for the amazon as we can be sure of it being new and hopefully problem free... Doh!!! @irv they advance/change, so quickly these days( NO!!! I'll rephrase that!!! we oldies dont change as quickly ) trouble is the darn technology lark costs mega bucks Ha!!!!!!

I would suggest, that with things like that, you always buy new.
