CAR TRIVIA Hours after Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Secret Service found themselves in a bind. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was to give his infamy speech to Congress the next day, and although the trip from the White House to Capitol Hill was short, agents weren’t sure how to transport him safely. At the time, Federal Law prohibited buying any cars that cost more than $750, so they would have to get clearance from Congress to do that, and nobody had time for that. One of the Secret Service members, however, discovered that the US Treasury had seized the bulletproof car that mobster Al Capone owned when he was sent to jail in 1931. They cleaned it, made sure it was running fine and had it ready for the President the day after. And run properly it did. Capone’s car was a sight to behold. It had been painted black and green so as to look identical to Chicago’s police cars at the time. It also had a specially installed siren and flashing lights hidden behind the grille, along with a police scanner radio. To top it off, the gangster’s 1928 Cadillac 341A Town Sedan had 3,000 pounds of armor and inch-thick bulletproof windows. Mechanics are said to have cleaned and checked each feature of the Caddy well into the night of December 7th, to make sure that it would run properly the next day for the Commander in Chief. The car was sold at an auction price of $341,000 in 2012.

Economy;
eco - meaning ecology or environment.
nomy - From Greek meaning Law.
Conclusion: Natural Law.
What does Natural Law have to do with Money?

Supply and demand. As you, I thought that they would have gotten more money for the car. My thoughts, because of the supply, limited to one. But the demand was limited because of lack of buyers with money.

Supply and demand isn't Natural Law.
I've always wondered why people throw the word economy around to mean 'of a monetary unit/function' when in actuality it should mean 'natural law'.

From your link: Which proves my point, so where did the whole monetary assumption come from. "Our economy is in a poor state, so wages will be lowered..." Surely it must've started as a slang term and just took over the greedier we got.

Lots of reading here. I certainly didn't read it all, nor do I plan on doing so. Posted here FYI. Was still a nice story about a famous car though. www.iep.utm.edu/natlaw/

Interesting read, but it was all about natural law from a legal perspective and not comparing economy and eco - nomy. Agreed, and I feel I may have caused a digression here I bet it's difficult to get spares for that car now though especially with all that bullet proofing, and I wouldn't care much for parking it on a grassy verge with all that extra weight.

Like most collector cars, probably won't get much use except as a display. Doesn't say who bought it. A friend of mine sent me the link, thought interesting and decided to pass it along. I know Ted likes such things.

Ted (and his wife) are fine. He is entertaining his grandson over the holiday so is not in much. I phone on a regular basis.
