A very Happy Thanksgiving to our members and good friends across the pond in the US. Found this whilst lurking the interweb, our UK members may find it an interesting read; www.history.com/topics/thanksgivingMike and all our UK members.

This could be a problem:)

One thing to remember of course that there were no 'beer laws' as we know them now!!
The % was very likely having a keel over factor, causing that ailment known as 'Blood on Kneecap syndrome'. Much of our youth suffer today from a similar problem but without the essence or art of getting three sheets to the wind!
If there was beer, there were only a couple of gallons for 150 people for three days.
It is very likely that a couple of gallons for 150 people over 3 days was sufficient.
An equation to work on perhaps....
150 persons! Where x = the unknown factor
Men: x The drinkers Women: x The brewers Sprogs: x The cleaner uppers
I should imagine that only the men drank from the barrels (quite likely and rightly so).
So a fair division of the spoils were quaffed by the 'fathers' not the wives or ankle biters.
So the founding fathers got really 'faced' The women got really good at brewing and the kids raised a glass years later and said 'cheers dad'
Please take this with the humour with which it was intended.
No salt additives or grains were harmed in this post.

Irv, they are hidden behind the venison:) LH, ahh, I see No, people say they are making them, using Sweet Potato instead of normal plain old Potato's. I'm a purist I guess? I like them with Apple Sauce (Cinnamon) and some like them with sour cream or just salt. I make them every year, and this year I'm making some to take to our daughter's for 'whatever you want to call the holiday' tomorrow. One reason I can't seem using Sweet Potato is that they are harder than Potato's. They have to be cooked longer. Making Latke's is almost and art form by itself. Some like it smooth and creamy, others with chunks of Potato in in, and still other like it 'grated' into strands. CHECK HERE to see some ways of making it, and not all use Potato's.
