Why would anyone want the Metro apps on the desktop? From what I can see, these are basically either 'tablet' specific apps or DUPLICATE what you can get on any PC? To me, there is only ONE redeeming feature for Metro apps, they 'live update' to some degree, but do *I* really want that? For instance, I have small apps that check my POP3 server and alerts me to e-mail receive since the last check. One sort of annoying Metro app is a news one that pops up on the upper right a small dialog box and plays a sound when it does. It CAN be turned off, but I leave it. See 2 or 3 of these a day. Now that I'm on W8.1 I go directly to my desktop and bypass ALL the Metro apps at start. To be honest with you, the only time I go back now is if I'm too lazy to turn on my iPad and I want to see sports, stock, or news updates. Rather than browse the web to get that info, there are Metro apps to do that. Somewhere I saw some rumors on Windows 9 (Google that for a ton of links, but some are old) that MS will diverge from the one OS for all, that is they will have different versions for PC's and Phone's/Tablet's. Some Windows 10 rumors as well. Windows 9 expected to appear late next year (2014).
