Hi All, Seeking some help with an intermittent problem on my HP P6644Y computer. Running W7, IE9.
At times the quick launch task bar does not work. There are windows to open there but, when I use the mouse cursor to access them all I get is a quick blink of them on screen but won't open. Also, noticed when this occurs the icon for volume at the right of the task bar can be accessed, but volume slide is at zero. When moving the slide up to increase it won't stay, just drops back down to zero.
Reboot fixes the problem but problem comes back at random for no apparent reason.
I have run full scan of Malwarebytes, no problems found. Full scan of SAS only some adware found which was deleted. All Windows update have been done.
All on screen icons work. Also tried restore before the problem occured, to no avail.
Not at the problem computer at this time, will be later today. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Had this problem some time ago, in 7 / 64bit and I believe it was an MS update.
I solved the problem this way.
Start task manager, go to the processes tab, find 'explorer.exe' Click to to highlight 'explorer.exe' and then 'End Process' Now click 'File', New Task and type explorer.exe.
Click ok.
Does this help?

Trying a system restore back further back than I tried earlier. So far so good, but problem is random. Mike feels a Windows update is the cause. If machine stays stabile for a few days will install the 19 updates that are now there since the restore one at a time.

Problems are mounting here, I have restore disks made years ago, before the flood. Not a joke. Will have to look for them. I do have a Macrium image, that may help never tried to use it didn't have to. Will look for disks this weekend. Unable to run sfc.exe. now either.

There are options for creating a repair in win7, the original Win 7 Install disk or creating one from within Win7. A Win 7iso download will also work as a repair disk. Another way is to create a 7 repair disk from the existing OS you are in. In the run box, type 'backup' Burn this to DVD-R and you then have a bootable disk with recovery / repair options I can WO both to you if you have issues

Make sure there are no headphone/external speakers plugged in, if none are attached check to see if the speaker port is damaged inside (you will need a decent torch and some eye adjustment) just to check the contacts are okay.
Are you able to open Event Viewer? and a Cmd Prompt in the normal way and by right clicking and selecting Run As Admin?

I can open event viewer, at least I could yesterday. The information there is above me. Was able to run sfc.exe now I can't. Did manage to find the disks I made when puter was new so, Going to try the system repair disk in a little while. External speakers are plugged in they have been. After a reboot all is good again for awhile. Computer has been running for hours now, everything working. Stops working as I said for no apparent reason.

I had an issue with not being able to open Event Viewer some time back had to use a back up image. I'm not 100% sure but I feel it may have been an issue with Wireover as I had an issue installing it (something to do with UAC diverting it to a temp folder instead of Programs).
When I re-imaged to a point before I installed WO I had no problems, although the re-image was also before Windows Updates so I installed each of those one by one and had no issues. I haven't as yet tried to re-install WO. Just a thought (and that was a Vista machine 32bit not 7 64bit)

Good to know. WO could be a problem. It's a stumper for sure. Can still use it, just want things right.

WireOver lives in appdata > Local. Not program files.
