Hi,
My sister in the UK will be buying a new laptop in the next couple of months or so. She has vouchers to spend in John Lewis stores and I am trying to advise her of which manufacturer to go for.
When I searched for manufacturer reliability about 3 years ago I found Asus & Toshiba came high on the list.
John Lewis seem to have a lot of Toshiba machines.
Any comments/advice appreciated.

Mike, that's a nice average user machine, but if she uses high level games, cad, video editing, etc etc, then it wouldn't be sufficient. We really need to know what she wants the computer for !

Mikes suggestion looks good. And a 17 incher is much better than a 15 incher, especially when it comes to watching videos, or you need to have a lot of windows open.

That is a good deal for sure, I have the previous version and am very happy with it.

Many months on now and she still has not bought a machine. To be fair she recently bought a house and laptop was least neeeded. Anyway she is buying this, linkI think get rid of McAfee trial and use other. Also her old desktop cannot upgrade beyond XP so I'm thinking it would be ok for say zorin or similar?

Looked up the full specs for the Tosh, and looks well sufficient for general use. And yep, have a go with Zorin. What is the make of her desktop ?

This machine is similar to the one I use. I am a devout Toshiba user. Good price as well. Good resolution Trubrite screen, usb3 and HDMI. Zorin would be a good idea, but you might look at Linux Mint as well: cinnamon.linuxmint.com/ which I run in Virtual Machine. As LH said, make and model of the desktop.

I think she is on her way to buy the Tosh right now.
I will find out the make and model of the desktop when she gets back to me.
Is it going to be a problem getting rid of McAfee from the new Tosh? I only ask because searching the net it seems many people have had a lot of trouble with McAfee.

I've not used costco before and that is a ridiculous price given the same spec, especially for a 17.3 screen. The specs matched JL.
Tis you decision at the end of the day!
